Since 14 September 2009, the following three responses to the questionnaire on violence against women have been received from Member States: Botswana, Monaco, Mauritius.

As at 14 September 2009, the following responses to the questionnaire, which constitutes the primary source of information for the database, had been received from Member States: Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Benin, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, China, Colombia, Cote d'Ivoire, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Eritrea, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Haiti, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madagascar, Malta, Mexico, Montenegro, Nepal, the Netherlands, Oman, Pakistan, Paraguay, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Republic of the Congo, Romania,  Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Syrian Arab Republic, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom, United Republic of Tanzania, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Viet Nam, Zambia.


March 2009

On 5 March 2009, the Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro launched the Secretary-General’s database on violence against women.


This database will encourage exchange on initiatives and ideas, and the transfer of promising practices. It will facilitate learning and show how progress is being made. The database will also help us to understand what remains to be done. I hope it will inspire all of us to redouble our efforts to put in place the policies, services and other measures necessary to tackle violence against women” – Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. Asha Rose Migiro
