Goals and Objectives
Summary of the partnership's goals and objectives
The BioTrade Facilitation Programme (BTFP) helps enterprises in developing countries (for example small, medium, and community-based enterprises) with export promotion. To achieve this, it joins several partners in developing and developed countries. The programme supports products that have market potential and can be produced without harming biodiversity. To develop and trade these products, export plans are formulated and then implemented through a set of practical trade promotion services, including market information collection, products development, quality improvement certification, labelling, trade fairs participation and matchmaking.

* Sectors for natural products strengthened
* Priority (national and international) for sustainable trade increased

Relationship to International Agreements on Sustainable Development
How the partnership contributes to the implementation of Agenda 21, the Programme for the Further Implementation of Agenda 21, and the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation
The BTFP contributes to poverty alleviation, local development and ensure benefit sharing. It provides an incentive to conserve biodiversity and use it sustainably as tangible economic, social and environmental benefits will be generated to BTFP beneficiaries. It enhances the productivity and competitiveness of developing countries in accessing sustainable biodiversity markets and reduces the pressure on biodiversity resources.
This partnership addresses a number of Chapters of Agenda 21, particularly Chapter 3, Chapter 15 and Chapter 11. It particularly addresses §66 (l) of the fifth session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD). In relation to the UN Millennium Declaration, this partnership addresses mainly the following goals 1, 7, and 8. Relevant Sections of Agenda 21
Combating deforestation; Conservation of biological diversity
Coordination and Implementation
Coordination Mechanism of the Partnership
UNCTAD is coordinating the BTFP. It receives guidance from an Advisory Board that meets once a year. The BTFP partners are part of the Advisory Board. A donor committee meets with UNCTAD twice a year to discuss progress reports, budgets and work-plans.
Implementation Mechanism of the Partnership
While coordination is in hands of UNCTAD, programme implementation mainly realized by the partners in developed and developing countries. Implementation of activities is partly funded by the BTFP, partly by resources of partners.
