          Goals and Objectives
          Summary of the partnership's goals and objectives
          The Partnership aims at encouraging the production, dissemination and use of solar water heaters and solar water heating technology in Developing Countries.
          The Partnership aims to achieve the exchange of information on:
          * Production and installation practices adapted to developing countries;
          * Financial and organisational models (such as the guarantee of solar water production) which favour the dissemination of solar water heating;
          * Training material for production, installation and sales technicians;
          * Public programmes and policies which favour the dissemination of solar water heating.
          Targets and Progress
          Partnership targets
          The immediate target of the partnership is to create and information exchange network based on Internet technologies. This could include:
          * discussion groups;
          * electronic newsletters;
          * best practice data base.
          Depending on the results achieved, partners may decide to:
          * publish a paper newsletter;
          * organise seminars or workshops on solar water heating.
          Progress against targets
          None reported as of 12/03
          Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
          Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer
          • Human resources development/training
          • Education/building awareness
          • Technology transfer/exchange
          Capacity building and technology transfer are the principal activities of the Partnership, through the planned information exchange activities. Capacity building will cover all aspects of the life cycle of solar water heaters: production, sales, installation and maintenance. Activities include: * Training material for production, installation and sales technicians; * Public programmes and policies which favour the dissemination of solar water heating. Technology transfer will take the form of private partnerships to exchange specific elements of technology for solar water heating.
          Relationship to International Agreements on Sustainable Development
          How the partnership contributes to the implementation of Agenda 21, the Programme for the Further Implementation of Agenda 21, and the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation
          Through this objective, the Partnership will contribute to achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in the following ways:
          * Poverty reduction. The production and sale of solar water heaters creates jobs and income.
          * Health. The availability of hot water for sanitary needs can contribute to improving health.
          * Natural resource management. Use of solar energy to heat water replaces electric or oil/gas fired water heating, both of which depend indirectly or directly on the use of fossil fuels. Thus solar water heating contributes to reducing Green House Gas Emissions and to reducing local air pollution.
          Coordination and Implementation
          Coordination Mechanism of the Partnership
          The Initiative Partners will develop appropriate co-ordination mechanisms.
          The work of the Partnership will be carried out by a steering body, responsible for global co-ordination, and through working groups for specific tasks constituted by interested participants.
          Appropriate monitoring arrangements will be put into place by the Initiative Partners.
          The Partnership will seek links with ongoing and new international initiatives, such as the Global Network on Energy for Sustainable Development or the Initiative on "Energy for Poverty Eradication and Sustainable Development".
