    Summary of the partnership's goals and objectives
    The Arab Civil Union for Waste Management Initiative aims to Initiate community - based projects in the field of waste management through the transfer of appropriate technologies, public awareness, initiating and implementing successful pilot projects, the exchange of information and good practices

    Partnership targets
    - Implementation of sound practices for civil Societies organizations in the field of waste management.
    - Raising public Awareness.
    - Involvement of women and youth in these activities as a major group.

    Specific targets:
    * Design a regional strategy for civil societies organizations contribution to waste management to reflect the stated objectives (Time from: second Quarter/2003).
    * Design a regional plan for Implementation (Time from: fourth Quarter /2003).
    * Implementation of the project according to phases and a specific time frame for each phase. (First-Quarter /2004).
    * On-going monitoring, assessment, and follow-up of Implementation following each phase.

    The initiative relates to the objectives of the Millennium Declaration and Agenda 21 in that it aims to :
    - strengthen the role of non-government organizations as partners of sustainable development.
    - Change Consumption Patterns .
    - Promote sustainable settlement development.
    - Promote environmentally sound management of solid waste.
    - Promote regional action for women, youth for sustainable development.

    -Creation of a joint secretariat for the project management made up of :
    * Children and Mothers Welfare Society.
    * Kuwait Environment Protection Society .

    * Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment
    - Creation of a steering committee made up of identified main partners to oversee the development and Implementation of the imitative

    The initiative functions with direct coordination with programmes of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment, and United Nations Environment Programme / Regional Office for West Asia. It aims to enhance and build partnerships with existent regional , activities of relevance, such as the Kuwait Environment Protection Society "Solid Waste Management Project", funded by the Arab Social and Economic Development, and Children and Mothers Welfare Society "Civil Society Action Project for waste Recycling" in Bahrain, funded by the government of Bahrain and the Society.
    Implementation Mechanism of the Partnership
    Principles and guidelines :
    - The involvement of major groups (especially woman and youth) all aspects of the initiative .
    - Building on the extensive past experience and expertise of the parties involved in the initiative.
    - Providing job opportunities to local community members (esp. women and youth).
