          Summary of the partnership's goals and objectives
          * to encourage the creation of national partnerships in industrialized countries to deal with unresolved and emerging water issues within the countries and to provide "windows" through which the countries water sector interfaces with the international water community.
          * to facilitate the development of networks among industrialized countries to exchange experiences and good practices of water resources and services management and interact with partnerships in developing countries.
          * to bring water issues in industrialized countries to the World Water Forums and other global events to be discussed in multi-stakeholder sessions and to be presented to politicians and decision-makers.
          Targets and Progress
          Partnership targets
          The Northern Water Network is a network of country level water partnerships in the North and its targets are sharing knowledge, linking stakeholders, raising awareness and organizing meetings. The Northern Water Network collaborates with international organizations with similar or associated objectives.
          Progress against targets
          Representatives of Northern Water Partnerships met during the ¿International Conference on Integrated Water Resources Management¿ in Tokyo, December 2004. Two open sessions were conducted, and a closed ¿business meeting¿ held. They stressed the need for these Northern structures for both North-North and North-South experience exchange, and indicate the immediate next steps to be taken in 2005.

          Through experience exchange, the Northern Water Network is to enhance the Northern dimension and link to the South in order to contribute to the implementation of Agenda 21, the Programme for the Further Implementation of Agenda 21, and the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation.

          The Japan Water Forum was identified as the secretariat of the Northern Water Network.
