The Clean Energy Initiative (CEI) is an umbrella energy partnership comprising U.S. activities in the Global Village Energy Partnership, Cleaner Fuels and Vehicles Partnership, Partnership for Clean Indoor Air, and Efficient Energy for Sustainable Development. Collectively, these components will increase access to modern energy services, promote clean transportation fuels, indoor cooking and heating practices, and improve the productivity and efficiency of current energy systems reducing waste, saving money, and improving reliability.
      Targets and Progress
      Partnership targets
Over 30 countries with national energy-poverty reduction programs; 400 million people previously unserved to gain access to modern energy services; 50,000 communities with energy services; cadre of trained entrepreneurs in delivery of energy services; improved health for people in developing countries by improving air quality through use of cleaner fuel and higher standard vehicles and reduced vehicular emissions; reduced mortality related to indoor air pollution in targeted areas by 50%; improved efficiency of energy generation and delivery in host countries by 20%.
      Progress against targets
Each of the three components of CEI have made progress on expanding the partnership base, identifying project opportunities, and building capacity in the respective focal areas within a range of countries. Specific accomplishments:
