      Summary of the partnership's goals and objectives
      (Vision); To achieve sustainable socioeconomic development through the equitable utilization of, and benefit from the common Nile Basin water resources.
      Objectives;
      1. to develop the Water resources of the Nile in a sustainable and equitable way to ensure prosperity, security and peace for all its people
      2. to ensure efficient water management and the optimal use of the resources
      3. to ensure cooperation and joint action between the riparian countries, seeking win-win gains
      4. to target poverty eradication and promote economic integration
      5. to ensure that the program results in a move from planning to action

      Partnership targets
      1. Build trust, capacity and an enabling environment for investment in the Nile Basin countries
      2. Plan and implement action on the ground taking into consideration benefits and effects of activities on other countries
      Progress against targets
      1. Of the eight basin wide projects, two are effective, six are at completion stage of preparation
      2. At sub-basin levels, seven projects are under preparation in the Eastern Nile and 12 projects are under preparation in the equatorial lakes sub basin

      Coordination and Implementation
      Coordination Mechanism of the Partnership
      Nile Council of Ministers in Charge of Water Affairs is the supreme policy organ of the partnership. It is supported by a Technical Advisory Committee comprising of heads of the water sectors in the basin countries. The Nile Secretariat is the executive arm of the partnership.
      Implementation Mechanism of the Partnership
      Approached from three perspectives; regional, project and national. For the basin wide activities, a project management unit is located in one country with coordinators in the other countries. A project Steering committee oversees and provides guidance to the project management. At the national Level projects are coordinated by a national NBI Office that liaises wit the project coordinators.
